The word “home training” refers to parenting/family upbringing that is the practices, teachings, and guidance provided by parents or guardians to children within the home environment. It is the instilling of family values, morals, manners and discipline to tailor children's attitudes toward relationships, love for learning and life in general. Effective home training is consistent, positive reinforcement, where parents serve as good models of the behaviour and values they wish to see in their children. This article explains the impact of home training on school children, highlighting its importance on social skills, emotional well-being and academic success.
Children's Background for Learning and Attitude Towards Education
From infancy, children absorb and imitate the actions and attitudes of their parents and guardians. Parents who lay emphasis on the importance of education, responsibility, and respect create a strong foundation for their children's future personal and academic success. Home training includes setting boundaries and expectations, helping children understand the consequences of their actions, and encouraging self-discipline in order to achieve academic excellence.
Home Training in Academic Success
Children who are positively encouraged and receive strong support and guidance at home are more likely to perform well in school. The following factors contribute to this:
- Children encouraged to take responsibility for their actions, including completing homework and studying for tests have a sense of accountability. They take their education seriously and strive for excellence when they understand that their efforts directly affect their academic outcomes.
- Establishing consistent Routines for house chores, school homework, bedtime homework, meals, and bedtime provide children with a sense of stability and structure. When children know what to expect and when, they can focus better on their studies and other activities.
- Promoting a Love for Learning: Parents who engage their children in educational activities, such as reading together, visiting museums, or discussing current events instil in their children the love for learning which in turn translates into better academic performance.
- A supportive home environment where children feel loved and valued fosters their confidence and self-esteem. When children know they have a strong support system at home, they positively face any challenge and are more likely to not give up in their academic endeavours.
Effects of Home Training on Social Well-being
Children learn through interaction with family members how to communicate, settle conflicts, and cooperate with others. It is easier for a child who has been taught to listen, share, and express themselves clearly to build positive relationships and work collaboratively.
Home training builds the following qualities in children:
-Emotional balance: children with good home training adapt to changing situations like disappointments, stress and frustrations. They tend to cope with challenges in a constructive manner that helps in handling ups and downs of school environment.
-Values and Ethics: Home training instils core values such as honesty, responsibility, empathy, respect and decision making in children. They understand the value of integrity and are less likely to engage in cheating or bullying.
-Sense of Security: A nurturing home environment contributes to a child's sense of security and confidence. A child who feels loved and supported at home is more likely to approach school activities with boldness. This positive self-image encourages his/her willingness to participate in class discussions, take academic risks and ask for help when needed.
Consequences of insufficient home training includes
° low self-esteem ° bad or bad academic performance
° behavioural problems ° emotional and social difficulties
IN CONCLUSION
The impact of home training on school children cannot be overemphasised in nurturing future success. A supportive and structured home environment provides a good background for academic success, social competence, and emotional adaptations. Parents/guardians play an important role by using their time, attention and care in moulding the future of their children by modelling the values, behaviours, and attitudes that will guide them throughout their lives. A saying goes “Happy parents means happy children and a happy family makes a happy country”.
